What Is The Difference Between A Spring Assisted And Switchblade Knife?

I am looking at knives, trying to buy a gift. Is there a huge difference between a switchblade knife and a spring assited knife? And, is one better than the other for day to day use? What brands are good?

Protech TR-3 USN Edition Gathering Knife – Automatic Win Machine

0 Protech TR 3 USN Edition Gathering Knife Automatic Win MachineThe Protech TR-3 is one of the best Automatic knives in production today and is hands down my favorite model from Protech. I have an attachment to this model- I've carried TR-3's for quite some time, have a small collection of them and a TR-3 was the first automatic knife I ever purchased back in 2008. This special edition comes from the Gathering, an annual get together from the USN forum. I am not a part of USN but I liked the color scheme so I picked up serial number 1 of only 10 pieces made.

This knife is a truly great auto and if it preforms anything like my other TR-3's, it'll be a great little utility and backup tactical blade. I really like it, it's subtle yet good looking and I think the entire TR-3 lineup offers a great amount of choice in color schemes and custom options. Highly recommended, I give it a 9/10 with my one complaint being the slightly short handle.
