i want to get a switchblade and or butterfly knife, and a lot of them maybe, but i have no intent of using them as weapons. so im wondering, why is it illegal to carry such things?

there spring assisted knives and one switchblade (not to carry) i currently haver them stored open in my gun rack should they be open or closed
I store mine open. Have no scientific proof but heard tell that open is better in the long run for the springs.
