India Stag
Many knives are made with stag handles, (deer antler), one type of stag is called india stag, whats that ?
Where does it come from ( india ??) , why called india stag, whats the value compared to other stag
that is Sambar stag, which comes from the "sambar" deer of india, as opposed to elk, where most normal stag grip material comes from.
Deer shed their antlers, so you can just collect them. Supposedly there is just a 2 week window where the government allows collecting of sambar, which makes it sound rare, but really if it is a valuable commodity, the 'picking' season will start right about when all the antlers are shed, and they are pretty much all going to be picked clean. Plus supposedly the indian government has some other restrictions.
Anways the stuff looks like elk horn, and is supposedly more dense, which makes it technically a slightly better grip material, but the reason I would want 'stag' grips is for it's Americana look, which would make me want to get REAL elk antler, not immitation, nor look-alike antler from a related animal in some far flug land. If I wanted to get an antler grip from an exotic animal, i'd want it to look different than elk grips anyways
