Before 9th of May, 1954, it was widely assumed that an English Mile could not be run faster than 4 minutes. On that day, in Oxford, Roger Bannister ran the mile in 3 minutes and 59,4 seconds.
In the years after several runners all went under 4 minutes, and today even some high school athletes will run at a time that once was considered ?magical?.
So, what does that have to do with losing weight and lose love handles? The common thread is - it?s all in the mind! Before 9th of May 1954 it was not expected that anyone could to run faster than 4 minutes.
Of course it wasn?t, but the interesting thing is that once that ?magical? record was broken other runners found it easier to do the same.
It is quite common to have deep seated, subconscious, assumptions that hold you back when you try to lose weight. Assumptions like :
?I never manage to lose weight?. ?I am a big boned person?. ?I have a slow metabolism?. "Growing older means you'll become heavier".
If you have thoughts like these inside yourself, then you will not be able to lose weight or lose love handles.
Why?
Because your subconscious will sabotage your efforts, without you even realising it.
How come? Simply - your body is basically run by your brain, your mind. Your brain tries to keep itself and your whole body - you - in a good state, and if you hold a belief that it is quite normal to put on weight, then that is what your subconscious will try to make happen. That would be "un-natural".
Now this might sound strange, even completely false, but it has been proven in countless situations. A more drastic example might make things clearer for you:
Imagine you?re four years old. Someone close to you is slowly wasting away. She -or he - does not eat, and is visibly stick-thin. Your family all try to make your relative eat.
Of course, the passing away of a relative is not really something that a child understands - however, the emotions that are being felt are of course being felt also by the little child. Imagine how deep an impression all this would make on a four year old.
And then imagine what will be in your subconscious when you try to go on a diet as a grown-up ... it?s not hard to imagine that as you start to get slimmer your mind will remember those emotions.
Because being thin is associated with being poorly and with worry and with grief. Getting thin calls up subconscious memories - emotions - of death and grief..
And, emotions are MUCH more powerful than logical reasoning! That is why a successful programme of weight loss, including targeting love handles and belly fat, must co-opt your emotions.
Your subconscious must be enlisted! That is crucial!
