Handle Knife
Knife that comes out of the handle?
I have heard of and seen a knife that slides out of the handle, but it is not a switchblade. There is no spring. The handle is slightly curved, and there is a place you put your thumb on at the end of the handle, when you push on that part, the blade unlocks and you can slide it out of the handle, then it locks. You push on a different part to unlock it, and then you slide it back into the handle.
Sounds like a lock-blade knife. There are many styles and differ from switch-blades in that the blade doesn't 'spring open.' Once the lock is depressed manually the blade can slide open.
Advantage: Once the blade is locked open it must be unlocked to close and so there is less of a chance of cutting ones self when using the knife because it won't accidentally close.
