Knife Fixed
CA fixed blade knife?
I'm 20 years old down in southern california and I am really wanting to buy a heckler and koch fixed blade knife. It has a 3.62 inch blade and Im wanting to carry it on my belt horizontally in the back. Im debating whether or not to buy the knife because i dont want any problems from police or other authories. Would I have any problem carrying steel in this manner?
According to State Law knives carried in sheaths openly suspended from the wearers waist is not concealed. Without hesitation I can tell you that various jurisdictions will interpret that law differently. To further complicate matters, various jurisdictions have laws that further restrict the carrying of knives. The knife laws in California are more complicated and confusing than the firearm laws. When I owned my knife shop I sold knives at various gun and knife shows throughout the state and the first thing I always did was ask the local police to inspect my merchandise and tell me if any of the knives I had were illegal in their jurisdiction. I sold knives at shows that I could not sell in my shop and knives in my shop that I could not sell in shows.
I could argue that carrying it in a sheath in the manner you plan is within the provisions of the law; but I am quite confident that the police and courts of some jurisdictions will disagree with my interpretation. So beware, because carrying a concealed knife is a felony (which is kind of funny since illegally carrying a concealed firearm is only a misdemeanor).
