Are Switchblade Knives Illegal In Nashville, Tennessee? The Whole U.S.A.?
As in the kind that you press a switch and the blade either flings open around one side by itself, or shoots out the tip by itself via a spring. Been wanting to start a collection... maybe even replace my pocket knife, but before I do, is it horribly illegal to own/carry/collect these wonderful gadgets? Please help. I thank you greatly.
I couldn't tell you about every single state, and I won't bother checking about TN, but it's a REAL good bet that carrying such a knife is illegal. In fact, many states make it illegal to carry a knife that can simply be manually opened easily with one hand.
Ownership in the privacy of your home is something else. They won't get a warrant and arrest your for owning a knife. I'm not aware of any state that would arrest you for mounting a Highlander sword on your wall, but you sure can't carry one on the street.
What you're going to have problems with, is trying to find someone to sell such knives to you. Laws governing SALES of edged weapons are very strict, and many merchants don't want to be bothered with making sure every small detail is exactly correct. Your best bet is probably Gun & Knife shows. Make sure any knife you buy is properly packaged in a box so that you can legally take it home.
