I’m Considering Isis Wings, And Sword Dancing With My Bellydancing, Any Advice?

Posted in Sword Cane by admin 3 Comments

I need to advance my skills. I'm still on zils, and I'd like to learn other props. My friend said I should try sword dancing cause it's slow moving and easier to learn because of it's slow movements. I also want to learn Isis Wings, and possibly move to the Cane Dance. Do they have videos that can teach that?

I'd say try all of the props and see what your like. The only traditional prop would be a cane the others are more modern. There were several newer videos out (can't recall the names right now) that offered some instruction on double veil, isis wings, sword, etc... Cane is pretty easy to find in performance videos and choreograpy videos but I can't think of any videos that teach cane specifically... perhaps I just don't remember any. I would check out several on-line vendors for videos and ask around on the Bhuz forums ( http://www.bhuz.com ) for recommendations. I also have some information on dancing with several props on my site http://www.middleeasterndance.net/props.html

Sword dancing tends to be very male. Isis wings would be very glompy to wear while dancing.

Don’t detract from the female form while bellydancing.

The beauty of bellydancing is that it is very female.

In Central Square Cambridge Massachusetts in the MIDDLE EAST RESTARAUNT they have bellydancing every Wednesday night, and it is well received.

A veil is usually the next step — semi- circular are easiest to start. Then dance w/ anything you want! swords, daggers, snakes, candles, tea sets, what ever you have on hand.
