A Spring Assist Knife Vs. An Automatic Switchblade

October 28th, 2009
Senate Amendment 1447 adds a fifth clause to section 1244 of the Federal Switchblade Act that exempts 'a knife that contains a spring, detent, or other mechanism designed to create a bias toward closure of the blade and that requires exertion applied to the blade by hand, wrist or arm to overcome the bias toward closure to assist in opening the knife.'
Spring Assist Knives are 100% Legal
California Penal Code Compliant - Bill SB 274
Legal in all 50 States
But Remember That Local County & City Laws Can Be Harsher than the State Statues & Local Laws Take Precedence. So if you have questions about knives then phone your local police department and ask them about the knife laws that are applicable to you. Assisted Knives are completely legal to own but your local laws might restrict them from being carried into public or might have concealment or non-concealment laws.

obviously, you cant kill people with pens as easily as you can with a switchblade. and the difference between a SWORD with a small knife like that is that you easily conceal the knife. I mean, I hate that these knives are illegal but i understand WHY they are.
Don’t know about …
Don’t know about that, some assisted models don’t have locks & they like to open in your pocket. So being safe & having nuts is a a good thing. The assisted models must have a good force against accidental opening or have a lock just like a good automatic, the top lock Bitchmade can keep the design, the old on the face safety like on the Gerber 06 rocks anything out there. Its a 1940′s design that no company can say they own, most importantly Les D Ahole didn’t make it
a switchblade isn’t …
a switchblade isn’t as safe as a spring assisted. A switchblade is triggered by the “button” and it’ll open right away. A spring assisted must open 45 degrees BEFORE the propulsion system kicks in. So… if you have a switch and a spring assisted, chances are, the switch will open all the way and … kill you :]
