Are Switchblade Knives Illegal In Every State In The U.S., And Why?
I live in N.Y.S., and switchblades are illegal here, but you used to be able to buy them through mail-order from Vermont. (a place called The Edge Co.). Are all pocket knives that are concealed considered illegal? Or are switchblades singled out because of being considered "automatic" weapons? I'm sure they can be purchased in Mexico or in Italy as stilletos. Anyone know where to order them from?
I think that they are illegal to carry, but you can own them. It is illegal to mail them to many places, but it is usually CA.
The terms they use is any knife that is spring or inertia operated (switchblades and butterfly knives). They have some lever operated one-hand opening knives that are very similar to switchblades and are legal.
The other thing to watch is the blade length. That will vary from state to state. If the blade is too long it will be considered a weapon, regardless of how it opens.
(I just got a cool switchblade that isn't a stiletto, but an actual working pocket knife. It was a present from my big bro, but on the blade is says Automat Kalashnikov 74 - POHL DESIGN - MAGNUM)
